Practical Moving Tips
Clear, practical tips from planning to packing and move-day execution.
Topics
Preparation
A good start is half the battle. With these preparations you prevent surprises on moving day.
Measuring is knowing
Measure beforehand whether large cupboards, sofas and beds fit through the door or stairwell.
Defrost freezer
Turn off the freezer 24 to 48 hours before moving and dry it.
Parking space
Keep 10-15 meters free for the moving van (about 2 parking spaces).
Washing machine
Secure the drum with the transport bolts and drain the water.
Cover floors
Protect floors (especially parquet) with plaster runner or moving blankets.
Packing
The Golden Rule
"Heavy items (books) in small boxes, light items (pillows) in large boxes."
Labeling
Write on the side and top what is inside and for which room it is intended.
Crockery Vertical
Always place plates upright in the box, on a layer of paper. Flat they break faster.
Essentials Bag
Keep coffee, toilet paper, medicines and chargers separate in a 'first aid bag'.
Not too full
Do not make boxes too heavy (max 20kg) and ensure that the lid can still close flat.
Moving Day
On the day itself we take over the heavy lifting. You can help by providing an overview.
Walking route
Ensure a free hallway and stairs. Remove obstacles such as plants and mats.
Valuables
Keep keys, jewelry and important documents in your own bag.
Children & Animals
Provide a quiet place or babysitter so they don't get in the way.
